SMA Service Opportunities

Volunteers In Mission (VIM)


  • Recommended for relatively inexperienced VIM teams/work crews; on-site supervision; work with on-site staff members; materials provided; accommodations on site at camp.
  • Building renovation, light construction, tree felling and trimming, painting, landscaping, and maintenance based on skills of team members.
  • Optimal team size is 15 - 20 volunteers, but larger can be accommodated; ages must be 14 or older. Seven to ten day stays are ideal.
  • Personal hand tools (well-marked with name) are welcome additions.
  • Assembly is 125 miles from El Paso in the Sacramento Mtns. (7500 ft. altitude) on the edge of the Lincoln National Forest.
  • Many recreational points of interest are nearby: White Sands National Park, historic Lincoln County (Home of Billy the Kid), Sunspot Solar Observatory, Roswell NM's aliens, and Carlsbad Caverns.
  • This camp and retreat facility serves the New Mexico Conference as a year-round facility.
  • Cost is $25 per person per day to cover registration, insurance, T-shirt, food, and lodging.

 


Summer Staff

Duties may include housekeeping, trail-blazing, grounds maintenance, building maintenance and/or renovation, assisting volunteer work crews, snack & gift shop staffing - and, above, doing whatever it takes to meet the needs of our campers. This is a ministry as well as a service opportunity.

  • Summer Staff must be available from June 1, through August 10.
  • Stipend for Summer Staff is $260.00 per week plus room and board.
